Unfortunately Disney Has Shelved Their ‘Tiana’ Disney+ Series
Some sad news for Princess Tiana fans!!
Along with the concept art came the information that ‘Tiana’ was a long-form musical series to be directed and written by Stella Meghie. We also learned that the series would “follow Tiana, the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia on a new adventure, but her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.”
This premise was exciting to Princess Tiana fans as it would provide fans with long form content featuring the beloved princess as a human. Many still resent (rightfully so) the sad fact that Tiana spent only 17 minutes of her 44 minute screen time as a human. Unfortunately for fans things fell through.
The only glimmer of hope that us Princess Tiana fans have is “a separate shortform special inspired by The Princess and the Frog”. I have learned to be cautious and so I refuse to get too excited about this since it is still in early development. The only bit of that news that excites me is knowing that Joyce Sherri is attached as writer and director (with Steve Anderson also directing. I’m a big fan of Joyce Sherri’s short film, Beauty (Short 2018). So I’m happy that her name is still attached to a Princess Tiana project.
Whatever the reason, I am very disappointed at the series' cancellation. I had been keeping a close eye on the project and was very excited to support it on Disney+.
Disney first announced that Princess Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) from 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, will be getting her own series on Disney+ in December of 2020. Nearly a year later, we got a first look at concept art for ‘Tiana’ in November of 2021. At that time the expected release date was in 2023.
The news was met with excitement from fans.

Hopefully this project gets released to the public as fans have waited years for the customary continuation of Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen's happily ever after.
